Posting from home instead of Los Angeles...

So... here we are, just hours away from the first major E3 press conference, and it's another year, another no-show at E3 for me. It's frustrating, to be honest. It's not like I wouldn't be able to get the credentials to get in... but it's the money and the distance that really preclude me from living a personal dream and getting out there to see everything first-hand. This may sound like a "poor, pitiful me" entry, but it's really tough when so many of your peers and colleagues fly out to Los… Continue

MGS4... Wow.

Since some of you may not have played (or finished) Metal Gear Solid 4 yet, I'm certainly not going to divulge anything about the storyline here. What I will say is that I had more jaw-dropped, "No freaking way!" moments with this storyline than I have with almost any other game, and I will admit that my eyes moistened slightly in one instance. I know that there has been and will be talk about the gameplay and how the arguably long cutscenes can affect the pacing of the game, and that's fine. F… Continue

At the crossroads...

I had been taking a little time off after working pretty hard up to just before Thanksgiving when the news about Jeff Gerstmann's... separation from GameSpot came about. While the facts of Jeff's case are unclear at this time, the suppositions are enough to make me pause and think about my future as a review writer.

I'm certainly not a big name like Jeff was, and I haven't been doing this for as long as Jeff had been. Admittedly, he's one of my inspirations, along with Andy Eddy… Continue

Thoughts before a HUGE week...

So... holy cow. What a busy week this is shaping up to be.

It's an expensive one, too-- I just shelled out over $200 on games that will need coverage this week. Super Mario Galaxy, Contra 4, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 are all prepaid now... and I got Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga and World Series of Poker 2008 for the DS to play in the interim.

I k… Continue

In the beginning...

So... a social site for gaming journalists, huh? Sure. This sounds like a good idea. After all, networking with your peers gives you the chance to offer ideas, talk about the industry, and get to know some pretty cool people.

How did I get here?

It's been a long and interesting ride. I don't have a college degree, but became interested in writing just before the dot-com bubble burst. I started out submitting pieces to VideoGameReview.com and Epinions.com, and my work was prett… Continue
