I think comparing games against other games in reviews is absolutely fine, as long as the comparison is valid. As Switch says, we'd need to see the rest of the review to understand fully what you meant by this opening statement, but on its own it so…

About Me:
As you'll see from my limited experience and current age, I'm a bit LTTP when it comes to video game journalism. Having said that, I've not wasted my university years and I don't regret them at all. Besides, if you work out what you really want then you just have to chase it. So now I'm working 24/7 to catch up on all you clever sods who made the right choices with further education! I've loved the ride so far and I'm not looking back :)

In January 2008 I started up my gaming blog called You Have Lost! (link below). I think it's quite a decent read to be honest, but please feel free to visit it and entirely disagree. Shortly after launching the blog I started working for LastWordGaming as a Core Contributor & News Director. The site sadly soon closed with financial problems. Following that I've taken up posts as UK Correspondent for EGC Games and Staff Writer for TheGameReviews. As well as writing features and reviews for TGR, I also have a light-hearted and patriotically-biased weekly column on the site called Very British Gamer. I've just started seeking freelance work and am always looking for more opportunities. I've also recently started my own podcast, Big Red Potion, which you can find at my site (link below).

I've been a bit quiet on VJN but I'm going to try contributing a bit more. I look forward to getting to know people here.If you want to get to know me a bit better, would like to see some sample work or would like further information about my previous work feel free to e-mail me at shoinanwork@tiscali.co.uk

So I Started a Podcast

After some encouragement here, I decided to start up my video game podcast. It's called Big Red Potion, and rather than being a news/games we've played type of podcast, it's more a panel-based discussion podcast in the vein of IGN's Game Sages. I've put together three shows so far and I've had some good feedback - and it made it on to the new and notable list on iTunes which was awesome.

I'd love it and be hugely grateful if people could give it a listen and let me know what they think. You can… Continue

My Dinner For Four

-- Taken from my blog @ http://shoinan.com

Mitch Krpata’s been answering readers’ questions over at Insult Swordfighting, including one from yours truly. My question was “If you could have dinner with three video game characters, who would they be and why?”, and here’s what Mitch had to say:

All this time on the TGR forums I had seen your profile pic and thought that it was you trying to look adorable, and smirking. But now I think it looks more like you trying to look fearsome, like a pirate.

Has anyone ever told you that the three pictures you have up of yourself look like completely different people?

no! I think it's a good debate! and I think the final resolution was that the article was much appreciated.
