The Batman Arkham Asylum demo was released this week (the 6th for PS3 and the 7th for Xbox 360) and I am pleased with what I've played so far. Albeit, I do have some minor nitpicks about the game, it is only a demo and I'll have to wait for the co...

Thoughts on a classic video game: Donkey Kong Country 2

Yesterday, I took a stroll down memory lane and decided to play Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest. I could remember playing this game as a youth and feeling excitement as well as frustration (due to the extreme difficulty). Now, being an adult, I found that not much has changed. I was still excited to see Diddy, the end of the level win animations, all the goofy Kong family characters and yes, the difficulty that made me want to tear my hair out. But alas, I rediscovered how fun this gam… Continue

Beatles Rock Band: review

When talking about the Beatles a few words come to mind: amazing, gifted and legendary to state just a few, so it was only a matter of time before they became part of the video game world. In Beatles Rock Band, you along with 3 other friends get to navigate through the career of the Beatles from playing in small venues to belting out some of the most significant tunes of all time. And how does the game add up you ask? It is truly a remarkable video game that follows the career of a remarkable ba… Continue

A look at console controllers: Nintendo (part 1)

Ok, so it would take me a while to list all of Nintendo's controllers, so I'm splitting it up into 2 parts. Today I will cover the Nintendo Entertainment System controller and the SNES controller. Next, I'll cover the N64, the Gamecube and finally the Wii.
So here we go.

The Nintendo Entertainment System controller. A legend in its own right and truly a landmark in gaming history. The controller brought us the power to take control of some of the best characters around like Mario or Link. But I… Continue

A look at console game controllers: Microsoft

Ok, I know Microsoft hasn't been in the game very long, but they've done an awful lot in the time that they've been out. They've sold millions of consoles as well as games, come up with some innovative technology and proved that they could outsell Sony's PS3 (for the time being). So, lets just check out the controllers that Microsoft has to offer and see how they fair against the others.

First off; the original fat Xbox controller. Now I love the original Xbox for many reasons; it had a hard dr… Continue

A thought about best gaming controllers

What makes a good controller? Is it the innovations that come along with it, or is it the simplicity? I, for one, cannot decide on the true nature of a "good video game controller". There are dozens of controllers from dozens of systems, some bad and others good. I can say that I do have a preference for a certain type of controller over others, and some of that might have to do with comfort and add-ons. What I can do, for now, is talk about all of the major console brand controllers I've ever u… Continue

I noticed you edited my comment -- were my words that dangerous?

I'd urge you to think hard if you really want to do this as a career. People are going to offer feedback on your writing and even criticize it, and you won't be able to snip out the bits of their feedback that you do not like.

I'm sorry you took it that way; I thought this was a community for writers seeking constructive feedback on their work, and that you were posting stuff looking for feedback, as many other people here are. If you're just using your space on the Videogame Journalists Network as a personal blog, I apologize for butting in.
