How often did you contact the people who didn't give proper attribution? A simple look at the timestamps on the post should give all the proof they need about who broke the story.
Similar ideas are one thing, but blatantly copying original report...
Opinion pieces, though, are hard to distinguish from a proper feature or editorial. I mean, is an article factual because it has a direct quote or statistic, or because it simply contains facts? If the latter, does a writer have to check facts he...
Folks like Michael Abbott, Chris Dahlen and Clive Thompson (when he had his "Games Without Frontiers" Wired column) write insightful essays that advance the discourse around video games, and that has value.
For every one good one you find, there ...
First off, good for you! Opinion pieces, unless you have worked in the actual industry of creating games, are usually nearly worthless. When you weigh in on a topic in gaming, the question your readers are going to ask are simple: who are you? How...
How is it greed? Can you show us EA's books and explain how this could be avoided? You could even argue that by not buying so many of EA's good games in the past, gamers themselves have directly contributed to this. The sales numbers for Dead Spac...
A quick note on the site: until you get a little bigger, it may be a good idea not to prominently display the number of comments on each story. Simply by glancing at the front page it looks like there are no discussions going on, and that's not th...
Just wanted to leave a personal thanks for the conversation in my blog. I realize it's not a conversation starter that's gonna make me lots of friends around here, but I'm certainly not here to make enemies, so I hope you and I are cool.
Phew. That "Adam" kid sure has one hell of a temper doesn't he? At least he had the good sense to conceal his full name before he went around insulting his colleagues and ruining the reputation of his site. : /
Whaat! You're silly pal. :Personal attacks? I was just mentioning that guys comment that was unnecessary. Let's get a couple of things straight here. 1. I don't want people like that guy, you nor most of you gold digging writers to work on our site. I have great writers that have just started college that are doing this with passion not because they are getting paid to. 2. Our site does just fine with our exclusive news and interviews.
I'm off this no good site that has nothing but ignorant writers like your self that like to diss someones site like your buddy that got laid off a 1up.com site that had a terrible Magazine and site comparining to Game Informer and their website.
Why is it that there is always one ignorant writer on this site that has to comment with a rude comment. I already know we aren't doing the best, but it's why we need the writers to help us get better. In no way does what I said to that guy affect anything. I had to nice gentleman respond back to my comment that will be joining us.
I know exactly what that guy problem was, he got laid off from 1up.com. He doesn't have to take it out on others and be rude because of it.
I noticed no feedback was allowed, so I hope it's okay to comment here. I liked your approach to the "free work" thing; it is the only treatise I've read that explains the nature of a transition to pay, instead of simply saying "Oh, I used to do that, I turned out fine; it's not a bad idea" or "God, you're ruining the industry, start being more professional".
